1. Smartphone: Kyocera Torque E6710
The Torque is a ruggedized device that meets the IP67 and Military Standard 810G – hence being waterproof (it can survive underwater for up to 30 minutes) and dust-proof. It can withstand shock, vibration, humidity, blowing rain, low pressure, solar radiation, salt fog and extreme temperature. As Sprint is confirming, this is its first LTE-capable rugged handset. It’s also the first in the US to offer Kyocera’s “Smart Sonic Receiver technology, which eliminates the need for a traditional speaker in a handset, instead using vibrations to transmit sounds directly to the eardrum with unparalleled sound quality.”
2. Tablet: Sony Xperia Z
Like the Xperia Z, the Z Ultra is certified with an IP58 durability rating which means it is both water and dust proof. Essentially, you can use the phone to take full-HD videos underwater with its 8-megapixel camera. The Z Ultra doesn't come with the 13-megapixel shooter for the Z, but the lower pixel count could indicate better low-light shots.
3. MP3 Player: Pyle Audio PSWP4
The Pyle PSWP4 is a waterproof neckband MP3 player (white) with 4GB of storage - perfect for listening to music while training in the pool. Its IPX-8 rated, for submersion in the water up to 3.3 feet. Plus, they've been designed to work with your swimming goggles without interfering. Connect to your computer via USB to load your favorite MP3 or WMA music files. It's easy to copy your music to this MP3 player - simply drag and drop your music files on the drive.
4. Camera: Olympus Tough TG-2
This year's TG-2 looks rather similar on the outside to its predecessor, but boasts incremental rugged credentials. Now, the camera is waterproof to 15 metres, shockproof from 2.1 metres, freeze proof to -10 degrees Celsius, crush proof to 100kgf and dust proof.
Waterproof sealing has been applied to almost every component of the camera, with an additional water-repellent coating on the lens element. This should ensure that water droplets stay away from photos when pulling the camera in and out of the ocean. An optional case can extend the camera's waterproof credential to 45m underwater. Other extras include a waterproof fish-eye converter and a teleconverter.
5. Speaker: Ecoxgear EcoXBT
Charging the device is done through a generic USB power brick connected through a mini-USB plug, and a charge should last about 10 hours. The charge door is covered by a gasketed seal; there's a small nylon strap attached that is used to pull off the door, and it takes a good pull to open this door. The seal is part of what keeps the ECOXBT waterproof.
What exactly does Grace Digital mean by waterproof? Well, it means that the ECOXBT can float and can be placed into water, but they do not recommend submerging it. I'm taking that as meaning that if you have the ECOXBT on the side of a hot tub and it falls in, it will probably survive the mishap.
